 Black & Decker 18-volt cordless grass hog - Love it so far (first use)Jul 03, 2009
Just purchased my first home. I was a little hesitant about buying over-priced cordless tools because of the bad reviews they often get here. However, my yard is very small and I knew I wanted something environmentally friendly. To give you an idea, it takes aprox. 10-15 minutes to mow our entire lawn. Just put this together and used it for the first time tonight. (after charging the batteries overnight) I was very happy with how well things went. Used it to trim taller grass and weeds along the borders of our garage and fence - also used it to edge around a bricked landscaped area. Worked perfectly. Actually worked better than I expected, and I am very happy with my purchase.

I like all three Black and Decker 18v tools but not the company.I own a; grass hog, chain saw and hedge cutter. I like all three. i wish the grass hog had a little more power but I like its portability; it's a trade off. However two batteries have developed cracks in their casing. I called their customer no-service. I told the rep this was a hazard they turned me over to the supervisor who didn't care a bit. I was told to travel over 60 miles to a service center "so they could look at it". I gave them the serial numbers, approx date of purchase no help. Two items were bought on Amazon.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TRIMMER. BATTERY ONLY LAST FOR TEN MINUTES. IT WILL TAKE HOURS TO RECHARGE. SPEND YOUR MONEY ON A GOOD 2-CYCLE ENGINE TRIMMER INSTEAD; IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF TIME.

There is no mention of having to partialy assemble this item. The three scews that hold on the guard were very tight and took a lot of effort to put in correctly. The top handle was a mystery on how to put it on because there were no directions in the strange little owners manual that came with the item.
After I finally got it assembled and tried to use it the line wouldn't feed, great. It doesn't put you in a good mood when the first thing you have to do is unreel a spool and hope you can get it running. So far no luck.

Don't expect this to replace your gas powered trimmer. It's OK for light use. It has a single-line spool - wish it had a double-line spool. Also wish it used thicker gauge line. On the plus side, it's fairly quiet, so you can use it early in the morning without waking-up your neighbors.
